Janet Sketchley hosted the East Coast portion of the Canada-wide launch of A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider in April at Regal Road Baptist Church, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Participants enjoyed servings of hot apple cider (the drink) and samples from A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider (the grace-filled and encouraging stories). Guest reader was local author Janet Burrill, who shared an excerpt from her novel on the Halifax Explosion, Dark Clouds of the Morning

It was a wonderful Saturday, May 28.

Adele Simmons and I (Kimberley Payne) met early at Starbucks to relax and catch up before the event started. The Chapter's lady, Rita, was extremely helpful. She even brought us coffee and offered us food from Starbucks. Another employee, Jane, walked around the store offering free samples of Chapter's foods. She came often to our table and fed the group lots of yummies.

We set up the display for 1 – 3 p.m., and Judi Peers's gorgeous apple juice container display was a huge draw. Many kids were familiar with books by Judi and Connie Brummel Crook.

Judi, Adele and myself all met people we knew. It was neat to re-connect with friends from highschool.
What a super day for my last book signing (at least until the fall).

We had long line-ups of women representing Canada's urban multicultural nature, all wanting to get autographs from the editors and contributing writers of this 100% Canadian book.

Some commented, "Wow, this is the first time I've ever met a real live author and got an autographed book!" 400 women went home with their own copies of a hope-filled anthology that will bless them long after the event is over.

Judi Peers and I set up our display as the birds serenaded us at the 7 a.m. market. This was the first outdoor market of the season. Surprised by the cold weather, we wrapped our hands around warm cups of hot apple cider…

By 10 a.m. the weather warmed up and the crowds marched in. A man placed an open guitar case on the ground across from our display and strummed a beautiful melody for over 3 hours. What a blessing to us! Judi offered him a copy of A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider in thanks.

Friends, old and new, came to visit us. Many people came to our display to sample the ginger cookies, apple juice and cider. They then inquired about the book. We felt the launch had an effect on many, not just Christians. At 1 p.m. we wrapped it up–tired, but satisfied.

Here's a sneak peak inside the book with contributor Kimberley Payne as she gives us a little splash of inspiration and humour to whet our whistles and send us off in search of our own cup of encouragement:

Sheila Wray Gregoire's booksigning at Hearts to God in Stirling, ON

Sheila signs books at Hearts to God in Stirling.Okay, we may be a little town, but Stirling's Hearts to God is a really cute store. And we had such a fun launch there last week!

People were really impressed with the book, and many came out based on all the advertising we had on our local Christian radio.

The bookstore picked up a number of copies to start advertising Christian authors, and I gave her some names of some she might want in her store.

I actually sat down and read some of the entries myself. I'm sorry to say that I hadn't been able to be before, since I only saw it when we started giving them away at the Girls Night Out events I was speaking at last week.

And I loved it! N. J.'s pieces of when she was a little girl were really touching, and I appreciate getting that insight into someone I've already known for a few years.

If you haven't read this book, you should!
